Galway Energy Co-operative aims to be an advocate for provide clean, renewable energy and services for Galway City and the surrounding area. We commenced operation in 2018.

We are member of SEAI’s Sustainable Energy Communities (SEC) Initiative which involves a large number of similar energy Co-operatives starting up around the country being supported by SEAI.

The SEC is just one pillar of our Co-operative’s initial focus. We are also looking at several other projects for the mid and long-term.

The ethos of the Co-op is determined by a set of rules.

Kieran Cunnane

Kieran Cunnane

Kieran has worked for more than 20 years as a Technology and Energy consultant. With GEC he has worked on EU projects in Community Retrofit and eStorage and with University of Galway on a Science Foundation Ireland Project. He also works as an SEAI Mentor for Galway City.

Dr. Sandra Riordan

Dr. Sandra Riordan

Sandra is a chemist, engineer, educator, and coordinator with over ten years experience in academia and education. Her most recent work with GEC was in Community Retrofit as part of Galway's EU NetZeroCities Project.

Phil James

Phil James

Phil has worked in finance roles for multinationals in the USA, Germany and Ireland. After leaving the multinational sector he went on to found four SMEs in Ireland in management training, language teaching, translation, and community development. He has been a director of five companies and has participated in 15 EU-funded projects. Phil's special interest is in hydroelectric power.

Dr. David Killilea

Dr. David Killilea

David is a medical doctor. He is passionate about local development, energy justice and worker self management. He has been very instrumental is setting up Galway Energy Co-operative rules and structures and in education and outreach on and with other co-operatives in Europe.

Hervé Boinnard

Hervé Boinnard

Hervé is an entrepreneur, a website builder and integrator, web designer and developer with his business Puma-IT.
